Opening for John Mulaney was David Angelo, a comedian who has worked on shows such as “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and CBS’ “2 Broke Girls.” The SAPB also had Binghamton Stand Up Comedy Club begin the evening with two student performers: Liam O’Malley, a senior majoring in English, and Lyla Cerulli, president of the club and a junior majoring in classics.

Whether or not audience members went into the evening knowing who John Mulaney was, they definitely walked out of the show both entertained; from a crowd of photographers in front of the stage, to suffering from his cold, Mulaney found the humor in every situation.

Following the night’s events, Pipe Dream was able to sit down with Mulaney for a one-on-one interview.

Cozz, the 22-year-old rapper who recently toured with J. Cole, started the night’s show brightly. Adrian Lux, a  DJ from Sweden, followed Cozz with an impressive light display and plenty of hits. The Events Center seemed to be a little bit empty, but by the time Big Sean came on stage, the floor was bouncing.

As the show went on, Big Sean’s abilities as a performer became clear; he did not disappoint the enthusiastic audience.

As the sun began to go down, the stage was set for the concert. A large crowd gathered in front of the Harpur College fountain stage to enjoy the music. Prime Ordeal, a 10-piece student band that won the Battle of the Bands, opened at 7:30 p.m. They were followed by Bad Rabbits, Sage the Gemini and The White Panda.

For the first 12 years of the pub’s existence, the drinking age was 18, so it was welcome to everyone. But in 1982, the drinking age rose to 19, and then 21 in 1985. By 1984, New York State had pictures on driver’s licenses, so it became somewhat more difficult for students to use fake IDs.

But the pub still stayed open for another decade and a half, and some of Binghamton’s finest passed through. As a bartender, Billy Baldwin was a fixture of the pub during his time at Binghamton, according to Yvonne Deligato, Binghamton University archivist. Professors and pupils drank together, arcade machines buzzed in a corner and patrons enjoyed games of pool and darts.

One of the less-remembered parts of the pub, though, are the concerts. The pub hosted open mics, a cappella groups and student bands. It was a central place from where music constantly leaked to the rest of campus, whether by jukebox or live music. Here are some pictures of those performances, generously provided by Special Collections at Glenn G. Bartle Library.

The evening started with opening remarks from co-director Stephen Prosperi, followed by Adam Eskin, founder of the Dig Inn Seasonal Market; Sunny Hostin, a Binghamton University alumna and journalist at CNN; Zephyr Teachout, a former New York state gubernatorial candidate; and Christopher Fix, a BU alumnus and CEO of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange. The intermission saw Quimbamba, a Latin dance troupe, dance on stage before the talks continued with Jack Fischer, a sophomore majoring in computer science and the winner of the TEDx student speaker contest, Maria Santelli, executive director of the Center on Conscience & War and Lisa Lottie, a world-renowned hula-hoop artist.

The ending remarks were given by co-director Stephanie Izquieta to a packed house in the Anderson Center.

On Saturday, the writer-director, along with his son, Clyde Lawrence, who also scored the film, spoke with the media followed by a question-and-answer session with students about the film and his own time as a Binghamton University student. The night before the screening, The Clyde Lawrence Band, named after and led by Marc Lawrence’s son, played in The Undergrounds.

Sunday afternoon, a campus premiere was attended by Marc Lawrence, Steven Kaplan, Emily Morden and Annie Q., all of whom played students in the movie, and star of the film, Hugh Grant. Prior to the screening in the Osterhout Concert Theater, they had all spoken to the media about the film. After it was screened, Lawrence and Grant took to the stage to answer questions from the audience, moderated by President Harvey Stenger.
